Afternoon friends!
Most people know me for my dating posts, so I thought I would make a post that talks about different types of dating, and different types of relationships.
I’m going to try my best to cover most things, but if I miss something then please do let me know.
Monogamy
Monogamy is the kind of dating that most people will know. The concept is to commit to only one person and stay committed in that relationship. The Oxford Dictionary describes monogamy as ‘the practice or state of having a sexual relationship with only one partner’.
A monogamous relationship may not be for you, especially if you seem to be a commitment phobe.
Polyamory
Polyamory isn’t so well known as a type of dating, but it exists. You may choose to have two boyfriends, a boyfriend and a girlfriend, two girlfriends etc, the list is endless. Louis Theroux did an excellent documentary on this!
This can also be known as an open relationship- the kind of concept where you seem to have ‘free reign’ from your partner. You’re in a relationship, but you can also share other avenues with other people. However, an open relationship seems to rely on
Polyamory isn’t for everyone, and not everyone will want to be in a polyamorous relationship, but it’s important to understand that there are plenty of other people out there who may be into polyamory.
Possibly, you may be polyamorous if you feel like you have an emotional connection with two people.
They say you can’t love more than one person at the same time- but maybe you can?
Long Distance Relationship
A long distance relationship can have all the benefits of a ‘normal’ relationship, however the intimacy and physical support can be short and sweet. The word is pretty self explanatory, but they tend to be when both partners live fairly far away from each other, but stay committed.
These are difficult relationships to continue and should really be thought about before you decide to date this way. However, they can be very rewarding.
‘Friends with benefits’
This kind of relationship can get messy if you have some real feelings for the other person. However, it can also be a great bit of adult fun if all you want is some casual sex every now and then.
No strings attached and no commitment make this a great option if you don’t want to settle into a relationship or bother with the dating side.
You can also try a D/s relationship with this category (Dom and sub). Perfectly safe, consensual and adult fun! A different type of kinky lifestyle if that’s what you’re into and great if you want to try something like mistress dating.
The whole thing of BDSM relationships is that it brings people together who may want to try things. As for the legal side, BDSM falls into a grey area. In brief terms, the courts have determined that sadomasochism may not be in the public interest, and is a continuing topic.
Remember: all these relationships require consent.
