When Do You Let go of Someone?

Today’s blog post is something I’m going to find very difficult to write. There have been few times in my life where I have had to let go of someone, and realise that they would be happier without me.

When I have realised that I am not what they want, and I never can be.

Love is a hard topic to discuss for many of us. It is heartbreak and happiness.

It can be everything we fear, or everything we want.

For many of us, there is a very valuable lesson we will learn.

Love is not like the fairytales. It isn’t like the movies, it isn’t like the great novels and it is not everything we expect.

Love can be the hardest thing you encounter, and it grasps onto you so hard. Your heart tells you one thing, and your head tells you another.

Last year, I ended a relationship that I had to let go of. I couldn’t make him happy as he wanted. I still loved him, I still hoped he got everything he wanted in life. I still wished him the best. I just realised that he didn’t love me, and I didn’t love him as hard as I should have. It was so toxic, and I was fighting so hard for something that was dead.

I was killing myself for someone who was no longer trying for us.

Learning when to let go was the hardest lesson I’ve ever had. And I want people to understand what I should have learned a long time ago.

If someone wants to talk to you, they will. If someone wants to love you, they will. If someone wants to see you, they will. These are not difficult things for someone who sees you as their world. After all, that’s what love should be like.

Love should be better than the fairytales. It should be better than the movies. It should be the greatest experience of your life, and you shouldn’t have to feel like you can’t be loved or you don’t deserve love.

Relationships and dating should not be an 80/20 affair. You shouldn’t have to prove that you can be loved, or they should give you their time. No one should have to prove themselves for love.

You shouldn’t have to fight for someone’s attention or pray that they text you back. That is bullshit.

You let go of someone when they leave you wondering if you’re good enough for them. When they make you feel small, when they make you feel like you’re too much, let go of them. Do not waste your time on these people, because all it will do is cause you more heartbreak.

Letting go of this person could be the hardest thing you have ever done, but you let go of them when you are finished with their non stop attitude. Some people will never change, and your happiness should not be put on pause for them.

You should find that fairytale love. You should have that happy ending. You should be so blown away by love that it changes your life.

Don’t let someone take that away from you.

Love doesn’t come very often, and you may be focusing on someone else too much to see that it is right in front of you.
